Emel Ernalbant & Zeynep Erekli: A new life in İstasyon

Sunday, May 13th, 4PM.
Location: bomontiada, Block C, 4th floor

Born in Istanbul in 1983, photographer Emel Ernalbant left both her fast-paced career and her hometown in 2014, choosing to move to Mardin and live a simpler, slower, more fulfilling life. She set up a dark room in Mardin’s İstasyon neighborhood, and for the last two years she’s been offering photography lessons to local kids and to refugee children who’ve escape the war in Syria. She transforms children first, and tries to use that as starting point for transforming families and then the whole region by reframing the world, producing some thing new, and looking at life through different eyes.

Ernalbant’s long-term colleague, editor and writer Zeynep Erekli, has had the opportunity to see her life and work in Mardin first hand, and the two will host a discussion about changing your own life and the lives of others, as well as photography’s power to heal.
