Coşkun Aral: The Story of an Experience Collector

A man who has been to nearly every continent on earth, Coşkun Aral is a traveller who captures unique lives as well as a collector of experiences… Born in 1956, Aral started his career in press photography in 1974. His photographs have appeared in prestigious magazines such as Time, Newsweek, L’Express, Paris-Match, Stern and Epoca, as well as receiving countless awards. He has also held numerous exhibitions both in Turkey and abroad. Documenting wars across the globe, in 1986 Aral began to work as a war correspondent in addition to his role as a photographer. As someone who has turned documentary filmmaking from being a profession into a lifestyle, Aral shares his unique story with those who want to collect their own experiences.

Mária Švarbová & Barış Çakmakçı

Mária Švarbová challenges the traditional approach to portraiture with her unique, postmodern style. In 2017, she was featured in Forbes’ ’30 Under 30′ list. Her Swimming Pool series brought Švarbová to new levels of success in her career, reflecting the aesthetic connection among people, the environment and colours. Moderated by Barış Çakmakçı, this talk focuses on Swimming Pool as well as Švarbová’s other works.

he Museum Hotel Antakya is a modern hotel constructed over a multi-layered archaeological site dating back 2,300 years. The architect of the internationally renowned The Museum Hotel Antakya, Emre Arolat discusses the importance of visualisation and archive in such a project with Sevim Aslan, who oversaw the digital documentation and analysis of archaeological artefacts as well as the conservation and restoration projects.

Michal Chelbin & Şevval Yürüten

With her portraits that deal with contradictions of life, such as fantasy and reality, bad and good, odd and ordinary, Israeli photographer Michal Chelbin, bring to light the stories of forgotten groups in everyday life from prisons to circus with her bold and objective frame. Israeli photographer with her first also recognized monograph published in 2008 “Strangely Familiar: Acrobats, Athletes, and Other Traveling Troupes” and the works exhibited in worldwide acclaimed herself before long in the international photography scene. Moderated by Şevval Yürüten, this talk while focusing on the series entitled ”Sailboats and Swans” which addresses the subject of being locked up, explores the motivations and visions hidden under Michal Chelbin’s photographic stories.

Borusan Contemporary Art Collection: Grandeur and Distance

Borusan Contemporary President, Dr. Kumru Emre, and AICA Turkey Period/Era President, art historian and critic, Dr. Firat Arapoglu, come together under the scope of 212 Photography Istanbul for an interview navigated by Borusan Contemporary Art Collection to discuss the topic “Magnificence and Distance.” The interview invites artists involved in the exhibition to join the discussion around nature, the production limitations of architecture and geography, ecology, sublime aesthetics, and a mental journey around the concepts of representation.
